Joey Chestnut

Joey is a basset mix who is about 7 months old. He was found playing in a park in Fresno with children, whom he clearly loves. After a two week stay in the shelter he has been living the life at his current foster home. He was initially scared of everything including a leash, noises, strangers, and other dogs and cats.

He is housebroken but still needs to be walked to the lawn, presumably due to his separation anxiety. Initially he sought safety staying in an unlocked crate, but now prefers to sleep in the family room or in the hall right outside his foster parents’ room. He does not want to be confined.

He is now happy to be on a leash and go for walks. He does sometimes get spooked and want to run straight home. He is slowly warming to other dogs and humans on his walks. He recently went on a road trip to San Francisco and enjoyed walking the streets, seeing other dogs, kids & grownups, and relaxing at an outdoor cafe.

He’s a playful puppy with lots of energy. He has a very sweet disposition. He would love to be in a home with young children or another energetic dog. He has an affinity for chewing shoes, so those need to be secured. He loves to play with toys, playing fetch and having his humans chase him around. Once tuckered out he loves his naps.

He is looking for a foster to adopt forever home, as he needs to be neutered before final adoption.
