Heidi Heidi came to me in May 2010 via the Sonoma County Humane Society and several GGBR volunteers who offered to transport her to me for foster care until she found a forever home. She was going to be the second dog I had fostered. Her age was thought to be about 8 and as it turned out she was heartworm positive, obese and a sick girl. After a 2 month long treatment course for heartworm where she was crated most of the time, you could tell when she began to feel better, a new puppy personality came out. Needless to say after having this little girl for two months I thought if she was good around the grandchildren, maybe I should keep her. That was the wrong thing to do if you really did not want a second dog. I had a dog Beuford a 7 year old with his own story. The grandchildren loved her. I adopted Heidi, a foster failure they called it. She lost the excess weight and as she got better she loved to go on walks, rides in the car and would sit and whine at me right along side Beuford. She and Beuford finally started to bond and her back was often a resting place for Beuford’s head (as evidenced in the attached photo). Everyone loved Heidi and she did not meet a person, dog, or cat that she did not love. She loved Buster the cat and would lick his face like it was her new puppy. Buster being used to dogs just took it until he had enough and would roll over and bat Heidi’s nose saying stop!! Heidi was such a nice addition to the house but it was to be a short stay. She died suddenly on 10/10/10 of Bloat. Although her stay was short, the last months of her life were filled with happy memories of camping, rides in the car, walks, good food, and comfy beds. My life was richer for it. See you at the Bridge, Virginia Tallman, Beuford and Buster
Nikko One family adopted three GGBR hounds in early-2010! This is the success story of these three lucky boys: Here are a few photos of our boys! (Front:) WALTER (Left) NIKKO (Rt) SEBASTIAN, he's the one with a pillow underneath!! It has only been less than a year since we've rescued these guys but it feels as if we've had them all our lives! How can anyone give up these guys as they are the most loving and loyal dogs I have ever met! It didn't happen over night, but eventually each dog picked who they want to be with the most. Sebastian is attached to my husband, Vince. Nikko is attached to my son, Christian who is 13. And of course, Walter is very much attached to me! We know that they have separation issues so it was very important, from the beginning, to show them all the love and attention they are looking for and they need; and to assure them they will not be abandoned again. Everyone's gotten used to their schedule and that they will tell you when it is time for "treats", "breakfast", and "dinner" they don't care whether it's Sunday morning at 7am they just know it's "breakfast!" As the saying goes, "THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM" is how our house has become! If we only had a 10 acre home I would adopt every single one of them!! Maria K. Vincenzi
Stuart Here is Stuart with his brother and sister. He has adapted quite well. He is very loving and through learning to trust us has become a very cuddly dog. He likes to get on the couch and snuggle and even gets on the bed with the whole family on Sunday mornings. He brings a smile to our faces every day. Thank you so much for bringing him to us. Rob and Kristin Glanz
Hunter We fell in love with Hunter the minute we first saw him. He has put on a few pounds and is doing well. As I am home with him all day because of a disability he has made life for us much better. He is also the fastest Basset we ever had. He keeps us on our toes. He sleeps with us and is a real snuggler. He loves his Crazy Critters and loves playing with us. He gets up early and gets his walks and then his rides. We are beginning to wonder, who owns who. We Thank you all for letting us have him as we know he didn,t get a good start on life. He is now a permanent member of our family forever. We love him dearly and would never even think of returning him. As we have had two Bassets before him, there is not much that we have not seen before. Again Thank You all for letting him be a part of our family. Bob and Liz Howe.
Amber Mazy (previously Amber) has taken over the house. She grudgingly shares her castle with her previously adopted Basset brother Milo who is 4 years old. She bosses him around like a champ and he succumbs to her charms. Her personality has really come forth since being adopted in August. However, we have determined she has some aggression issues and we're diligently working to overcome. Mazy learns quickly and is a real love bug. She has also gained a bit of weight (she had Giardia) and our vet now finds her in perfect health. She loves to go for car rides, walks, hiking, and the dog park. However, I truly believe her favorite thing is just to follow her human Mom around the house. We have formed an unbreakable bond. We also learned quickly that she's very fast and extremely agile, especially for a Basset. I feel so fortunate to have her in my life and I can't imagine a day without her!!!
