Abby Abigail Mary (formerly Abby) adopted April 25th, 2013 and Oscar, adopted October 2006 This past spring my husband Tony and I lost our beloved 16 year old basset hound, Cadie. Her death was devastating. Although we have another basset hound, Oscar, that we adopted from GGBR in October of 2006, Cadie had such a larger than life personality that the house felt empty. Oscar was not doing well as an only dog, and so we started looking for a second dog much sooner than expected. Right away, Tony fell in love with Abby's picture. She was one of three dogs we submitted applications for. After learning more about the personalities of the other two dogs, we decided they weren't a good fit, but Abby sounded like the dog we were looking for. After a number of weeks, we finally were able to meet her and bring her home. She turned out to be just the right dog for our household. It is hard to believe that she ended up in foster care because her previous owner was tired of having dogs, and was going to put all his dogs to sleep. Fortunately, someone overheard him complaining and rescued the dogs! Thank you for all the work you do, Kathleen Cahill Oh, in the photo of the two dogs, Abigail and Oscar are relaxing after socializing at the dog park.
Rosalee Hello! My name is Rosalee. I'm a petite basset who just turned 1 yr. 7 mo. My first owners lived on a ranch. They worried about me so much when I would wander off and not come when they called. They didn't realize that's what we bassies do! I only spent about a week at my foster home in Roseville. My foster mom, Erin, and her family were wonderful!! There were 2 older bassets there (they got a bit tired of my playfulness) and 2 human kids too. Then my new mom found me. She had lost her basset about a year before and had been looking for a younger, playful basset to compliment her other rescue pup. It was love at first sight! I've spent a wonderful summer in my new home in Placerville with my new big brother, Pax. He's a lab x and is only 3 months older than me. We LOVE to play together. Our favorite games are chase, tug of war, tag, wrestling, and then some more chase. Pax has taught me how to pull the stuffing out of our toys to get at the squeaker thingies...that's a lot of fun! We have a nice, fenced acre to play in and Mom takes us for walks everyday. I love to cuddle with her at night when she's watching TV (otherwise I'm not allowed on the furniture). Mom says she just adores my sweet, funny personality and thinks I have made our home complete. We owe it all to the wonderful folks at GGBR!! We will always be grateful to you for matching us up together. You're the bestest!!! Arrrooooooo!
Daisy 7/13 I adopted Daisy at the July 4th event (Waddle) in Novato this year. She is such a delight to me and my grand daughter. I've attached a couple of pictures - one, of her favorite tummy rub activities and the other is just a picture of her beautiful smile. We've established a routine of walks in the early morning and again in the evening and Daisy is sure to let us know if we forget or she thinks its 'time'. I was amazed at how easily she accepted my 15 year old cat as well as the other recently rescued feline. Daisy is an absolute delight to have around even on her late night forays to the backyard to chase off stray cats, possums, raccoons and other creatures wandering into her domain. She loves to go for car rides with me on every possible occasion. We surprised the cashier at the drive through window of the pharmacy and were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations at a restaurant on the river. They supplied ice water and doggie treats for her while we waited for our dinner. Shopping at Petsmart is a weekly event where she gets treats again (we're on a first name basis there). It's truly a dog's world and we're so very happy to be a part of it! I could go on and on about all the delightful things Daisy does to make my life more enjoyable, but its sufficient to say I can't imagine being without her. Thank you to GGBR for the wonderful work you are doing for these animals. Gwen Ford
Theo We lost our six year old Basset to her habit of ingesting things of interest on her walks to the park,. Someone had left a flip top lid on the ground and she got to it before we could get to her. We lost her in a few hours. It was devastating. Our home was quiet and our hearts very heavy. One day we contacted the GGBR and met with some of the most devoted pet lovers. After a few weeks they called and said they had a Basset being surrendered and would we be interested. A few days later we met Theo at a foster home along with his mistress. My heart went out to her and I admired her for accepting that sometimes you gave to make tough choices. She had Theo as a pup and now things in her home had changed and because of her love she was surrendering him to hopefully a good home. Theo was quite a handsome fellow and you could see he had been loved and cared for. We took him home with us to see if we could all be happy together. It has been a perfect match. He loves the grandchildren, gets along with the cats, loves vacations and is getting used to walks! We thank the family who surrendered Theo for giving us a chance to share our life with this wonderful friend. ****Jim and Sharon
Nathaniel (renamed Louis) When I started thinking it was time for me to get a dog, I asked one of my friends about Bassett Hounds. Since she grew up with a Bassett, she replied, "It will be the best thing you ever do". Nathaniel, now known as Louis was scooped up from the Modesto pound by his wonderful foster family, and two short weeks later, he landed in my lap! Lou is a true love bug. He enjoys long walks or short runs (!) in the morning and snuggling on the couch to watch TV with me whenever possible. I am lucky enough to take him to work with me every day, and he is the best coworker anyone could ask for! He roams the building and visits the other offices picking up belly rubs and treats as he goes. All over town, people stop to say hi to Louis! He loves road trips to Tahoe and running through the vineyards at my parent’s ranch. I don't think Donna and the rest of the team at GGBR could have found a better fit for me. I can now agree with my friend...Louis IS one of the best decisions I've ever made! Thank you! Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
