We welcome updates on the hounds we have placed... if you have a story to tell, please send it to Sally Mitchell, sally@ggbassetrescue.org, with photos if possible, and we'll feature it here.

Nathaniel (renamed Louis)

When I started thinking it was time for me to get a dog, I asked one of my friends about Bassett Hounds. Since she grew up with a Bassett, she replied, "It will be the best thing you ever do". Nathaniel, now known as Louis was scooped up from the Modesto pound by his wonderful foster family, and two short weeks later, he landed in my lap! Lou is a true love bug. He enjoys long walks or short runs (!) in the morning and snuggling on the couch to watch TV with me whenever possible. I am lucky enough to take him to work with me every day, and he is the best coworker anyone could ask for! He roams the building and visits the other offices picking up belly rubs and treats as he goes. All over town, people stop to say hi to Louis! He loves road trips to Tahoe and running through the vineyards at my parent’s ranch. I don't think Donna and the rest of the team at GGBR could have found a better fit for me. I can now agree with my friend...Louis IS one of the best decisions I've ever made! Thank you!

Nikko

One family adopted three GGBR hounds in early-2010! This is the success story of these three lucky boys: Here are a few photos of our boys! (Front:) WALTER (Left) NIKKO (Rt) SEBASTIAN, he's the one with a pillow underneath!! It has only been less than a year since we've rescued these guys but it feels as if we've had them all our lives! How can anyone give up these guys as they are the most loving and loyal dogs I have ever met! It didn't happen over night, but eventually each dog picked who they want to be with the most. Sebastian is attached to my husband, Vince. Nikko is attached to my son, Christian who is 13. And of course, Walter is very much attached to me! We know that they have separation issues so it was very important, from the beginning, to show them all the love and attention they are looking for and they need; and to assure them they will not be abandoned again. Everyone's gotten used to their schedule and that they will tell you when it is time for "treats", "breakfast", and "dinner" they don't care whether it's Sunday morning at 7am they just know it's "breakfast!" As the saying goes, "THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM" is how our house has become! If we only had a 10 acre home I would adopt every single one of them!! Maria K. Vincenzi
