Lexi (Contra Costa)

Lexi is doing great. I just took her in for another check-up last Saturday, as she's been itching and experiencing painful episodes with her deformed leg. She is now on Apoquel, Gabapentin, and an anti-inflammatory and she seems to be responding really well, thankfully! The vet did say that her right eye had cataracts and that she was likely blind due to that and the trauma to her cornea. I had her tested for glaucoma, which was negative, but I will closely monitor this as it could turn into glaucoma. She is really showing her personality. She is so sweet and funny; just a joy. And such a good girl! She loves (as do I!) her walks around the neighborhood and all over San Francisco. She's been to the beach twice now! That being said, I think she loves food even more than the walks. This is my 9th rescue basset and, while all of them loved food, sweet Lexi takes it to a whole new level! I think she is settling into the house fine, from her perspective. She seems really happy to be with us and hangs out wherever we are. Initially, she didn't like to be touched or have anyone near her face (understandable considering what happened to her teeth and the fact she was probably in a lot of pain for awhile). But I think she is starting to relax. She now gets on the bed with us and lets us pet her and give her legs and spine little massages. Levi

My husband and I adopted Inky (formerly known as Levi) on this day, 11/10/23, a year ago. We wanted to give you all an update from Inky's perspective: 'My parents dedicated this weekend for me because it's my gotcha day/birthday! Yes, it's been one year! [That's me, the little black and white guy, pictured with all my friends.] Here's a summary of my first year at the Camacho-Felix household: I was scared of my dad the first week they adopted me. Now, he's my best friend! Speaking of best friend, I have a best friend, Koa. Our moms schedule a play date for us every week even though they're exhausted from teaching. I also have a girlfriend, Pua. My parents took care of her and her sister one weekend while their parents were out of town and we've fallen in love since. We also see each other every week at daycare! Twice a week, I go to daycare with Ms. Katelyn and her pack. We play all day and go on field trips. I even got to swim during one of our field trips because my friends needed their tennis ball, so it was Inky to the rescue. Ms. Katelyn is the best! My mom's friend's dog also goes to my daycare too and we hang out outside of daycare. Her name is Penny and I think she's in love with my dad. I have so many doggie friends that my social life is my parents' social life too. My mom's friend who used to walk my brother, Kuya George, also walks me while my parents are at work. Ms.Dee is so nice! When my parents have a break from work since they're teachers, we usually go on hikes or go to the beach! My mom got to meet more of the other moms in the neighborhood and schedule play dates with them or walks with their pups even though she's an introvert and prefers to stay home. I got to spend my birthday weekend with my friends. My mom planned mini play dates and it was so much fun! On my special day, I got a puppacino and a doggy birthday cake! I still get nervous with people, especially when they come up to me with intense energy - even intense positive energy. Men/Guys also still make me nervous. So my parents are still working with me and gain more courage but telling folks that I need time and space. I'm not perfect. There are still things that I need to work on, especially with my confidence with new people. But I make my dad laugh every day. We wrestle and play every morning before he gets ready for work then play and wrestle again when he gets off work. I make my mom smile every day and help her heal her broken heart after my Kuya George passed away over a year ago. I never met him, but it sounds like he was a huge part of their lives. I still have a lot to learn, but I think our lives are fuller because we have each other. We are all healing each other either from past trauma or heartbreak. Cheers to one year! Lars

Lars is loving it here, and we love him! He has especially enjoyed wrestling with, chasing, and snuggling with his sister, Poppy.--Paige P, Washougal, WA (Lars adopted Sept2024)

Lady (Ceres)

Daisy (formerly named Lady, pictured at left in the photo) has been a joy from the minute we welcomed her into our home. She gained a big brother, Bentley, and they love each other! We've had a lot of adventures to show her just how great life is, which include her first Pup Cup at Peet's Coffee, being a part of our dog park pack of 15 at our local dog park, adventures all over San Francisco, trips to the Napa Valley, festivals in SF and her first SF Giants baseball game for Dog Days at the park. She loves attention and she and her brother get a lot of it when we're out and about, but what she loves most is coming home, racing upstairs to grab her stuffed lamby and settling in for a night at home, snuggled on the couch with us. She is perfect in every way! We're so grateful to GGBR for the opportunity to adopt her. Lady (Gilroy)

It is said that these fluffy round dog beds are designed to calm anxious dogs. While anxiety has not been an issue for 7 year old Lady, she is making good use of this bed for the favorite pastime of most bassets, sunbathing. Smart girl that she is, when sunbathing loses its appeal because of extreme heat, sharing the doggie window-seat in the house with her brother Spencer is a welcome alternative.
