Yuba  came to GGBR after being found in the woods of  Yuba  County and turned into the shelter in December. She has obviously had a litter of pups sometime in the last six months and she is  awfully  skinny.  Even though she was found in the woods and is so skinny, we do not think she had been there very long.  She is a very polite eater (twice a day), sits nicely for treats and is starting to come to her name when called.

She has been with us for a little over two weeks.  She's a good dog, very sweet.  She does not do well off leash as she loves to run at full speed and I think she is the guilty one that has been chewing up paper around the house if left alone with just Roxie and Beatrice.  She does great on the leash and playing in the house.  She likes to sleep on the couch especially if someone is there to cuddle with.  She plays well with Roxie, our Lab mix, and she and Beatrice, my Basset, have played a few times.  We took her to the dog park yesterday and she got a little overwhelmed but then did start running and baying with a Boston Terrier.  I took her on a few walks last week along the river, she did great.  She is very coordinated and agile.  Her favorite toy in our toy box has been old marrow bones; she loves to lay on the couch with one, lean her head over the side and drop the bone to the floor and then get down to pick it up and start over again.

When I first saw her, I thought she can't be all Basset, look at her coat.  Every inch of this dog is Basset from the tips of  her  toes to the tips of her tail and her nose.  We have been feeding her a high quality yet high fat & calorie dog food and have put three pounds on her!  Once she puts on some weight and grows into her paws, she's going to be a great looking dog!  Her face has an uncanny resemblance to our Basset, Beatrice. No problems with cats either as one of ours cuddle with  Yuba  on the couch and  the other  on our bed!  her  nose is all Basset and she thinks cats smell great!

She uses the  doggie  door and has not had an accident in our house.   She's  a great passenger in the car as she just curls up on the seat and goes to sleep.

I think a home with another dog and kids would be great and she would do well with someone who is home most of the time.

In the pictures you will also see Roxie (Lab mix), Daisy (neighbor's red/white Basset pup), Beatrice, our "Black" Basset and of course  Yuba  with the brown face and speckled coat!
