SAdie's foster parents have this to say about Sadie:
Sadie came to us as a GGBR foster. We had lost our basset, Molly, a few months prior to fostering, at the age of 13 ½ years old due to a tumor on her spleen. We were heartbroken and felt a void without her. Once you have a basset hound, you appreciate how special they are! We searched the internet for rescue basset hounds and came across the GGBR website. Long story short, GGBR had two basset hounds the surrendering owners could not keep, because the landlord told them they could not have dogs at their rental home. The second basset is Manchas (now named Chester). The dogs were kept as outside dogs without a fenced yard, because (we heard from the former owners) Chester was a bit of a challenge to keep fenced-in. Sadie and Chester are litter-mate sister and brother and have been bonded since birth four years ago. We were asked if we would like to foster the sister and brother bassets until they cleared their vetting with an eye towards adopting the two. Both dogs are amazing, and the answer was a resounding YES!

A little about Sadie, she is the sweetest houndie ever! Sadie loves taking care of her pack leader brother, Chester. She grooms Chester if he has too many rain drops on him from our walk in the rain, cleans his eyes, kisses him, and looks to Chester to lead the pack walk, etc. Sadie has the ability to track a scent like nobody’s business. This girl’s nose hits the ground, and she will follow a squirrel’s scent along the ground until it goes up a tree, and Sadie KNOWS the squirrel is in the tree. Sadie responds the Chester’s lead when HE finds something too. We knew from the beginning that these two hounds were intensely bonded and should never be separated. Also, Sadie LOVES her treats! There she goes to hide that special treat for later! When it’s time for a walk, Sadie gives the cutest “woo-woo” howl expressing her anticipation and happiness about taking a walk. Without much prior training in walking on a leash, Sadie is doing very well. Sadie wants to please her humans too – always lots of love and kisses!

Both dogs have adapted very well to joining us inside the house and, even, lying by our woodstove when it is cold outside. If hobbits had dogs, they would be basset hounds, because bassets love the comforts in life, and they are very loyal. We feel very fortunate about the opportunity to adopt Sadie (& Chester). How did we get so lucky? Things must happen for a reason, and we look forward to our new lives with Sadie (& Chester)! Thank you to the surrendering owners and to GGBR!!
