Neil is a lovely fellow. He is blind, but he manages just fine as you can see in the videos. We don't really know how old Neil is; 11 is our best guess. He is friendly with people of all ages and is also good with other dogs and pretty good with cats. He may bark at a cat, when he encounters one close up, but since he can't see, he can't really chase it. He is learning to ignore the cats in his foster home. He enjoys walks on leash, but is pretty slow moving, so probably not the best choice of companion for someone who enjoys brisk walks or jogs. A slow amble with lots of stopping and sniffing is his speed. He is a great car traveler and a good sleeper. He is also a great camper, as he is content hanging around the campsite and sleeping in the tent. He is housebroken and can use a doggie door. Neil has a happy, laid back attitude and is rarely upset by anything.

Neil is currently being treated for a stubborn ear infection, but that is his only onging health concern. His blindness was probably caused by injury and scarring of the corneas for which there is nothing to be done. He has a "cherry eye" in one of his eyes, too, but it most likely does not need to be removed, since it seems to cause him no pain, and there is no sight in that eye, anyway. All things considered, he is surprisingly low maintenance! Very little needs to be done to accommodate his blindness; just allow him to find his way, guide him with your voice, if necessary, and don't move the furniture. Other than that, treat him like a normal dog!

Neil would make a wonderful companion for someone wanting a happy, low energy dog. I can't say enough good things about this fine old guy!
